Pacientes críticos portadores de marcapasos y desfibriladores automáticosCritical patients carriers of pacemakers and automatic defibrillators

Cada vez se implantan más marcapasos y desfibriladores automáticos y por tanto cada vez ingresan más pacientes en nuestros Servicios portando estos dispositivos.

Debemos reconocer a estos pacientes y ser capaces de entender el funcionamiento del aparato implantado.

Programados cuando el paciente estaba en una situación estable su programación puede no ser suficiente ante una situación patológica con aumento de las demandas metabólicas. Incluso puede contribuir a agravar el cuadro clínico que presenta nuestro paciente.

Un conocimiento suficiente debe permitirnos reconocer este problema e incluso proponer cambios en la programación como parte del tratamiento del paciente.

El manejo clínico correcto de estos pacientes necesita de una mayor implicación en la comprensión de estos dispositivos en nuestro quehacer diario.

Pacemakers and automatic defibrillators are being increasingly implanted and thus more patients with these devices are being admitted to our Services.

We should recognize these patients and be capable of understanding the functioning of the apparatus implanted.

Scheduled when the patient was in a stable situation, its scheduling may not be sufficient in a pathological situation with increase of metabolic demands. It may even contribute to worsening the clinical picture that our patient has.

Sufficient knowledge should allow us to recognize this problem and even to propose changes in the programming as part of the patient's treatment.

Correct clinical management of these patients requires greater involvement in the understanding of these devices in our daily tasks.
