Update on intensive care medicine: Critical patient safety

Patient safety is a crucial aspect of all healthcare systems because adverse events resulting from medical care affect not only the patients but also their families, healthcare professionals, and institutions. The present monograph compiles the articles corresponding to the Update on Patient Safety, written by numerous experts in the field and coordinated by Dr. Mari Cruz Martín-Delgado and Dr. Maria Bodi.
The series addresses key aspects of patient safety, such as current safe practices, the role of artificial intelligence, and the importance of training and participation of all those involved.
The present situation and how to address current challenges in this area are discussed. These challenges must be tackled by adopting a comprehensive, cross-cutting approach that includes technology, training, and commitment from everyone involved in healthcare.
